Happy New Year Secessionists

This room in the old Canterbury Provincial Council Buildings on Durham Street is known as “The Stone Chamber”. These Council Chambers were built in the High Gothic Style, 1861 – 1865. The Victorians in Christchurch were very keen on the architecture of the Middle Ages. The building materials were tiles, and locally sourced stone and timber. The windows are stained glass.
