Bayxit? One in three Bavarians wants independence from Berlin – poll:
Almost one third of the respondents in Bavaria say they want independence from Germany, according to a new poll, which also showed that the southern region has the strongest secessionist sentiment among all German states.
This is NOT a serious attempt at provincial independence and self government so do not amass your armies at our borders and detain us as subversives.

Taxation Poem
Taxation Poem
by Anonymous
Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule
Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt
Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass
Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears
Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough
If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays
Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax

Orxit? Orkney Islands could demand to leave UK and Scotland
The Orkney Islands are considering declaring independence from the UK and Scotland following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
The motion to investigate “greater autonomy or self-determination” for the islands, located north of Scotland, was passed by 13 of the Islands Council’s 21 members.
It requires the council’s chief executive to draw up a report considering “whether the people of Orkney could exercise self-determination if faced with further national or international constitutional changes. Or indeed to decide if more autonomy might be beneficial for the wellbeing of Orkney.”

List of micronations
Micronations, sometimes also referred to as model countries and new country projects, are small, self-proclaimed entities that claim to be independent sovereign states but which are not acknowledged as such by any recognised sovereign state, or by any supranational organization. They should not be confused with microstates, which are recognised independent states of a small size, nor should they be confused with unrecognised states, which may have legitimate claim to sovereign state status.
Motivations for the creation of micronations include theoretical experimentation, political protest, artistic expression, personal entertainment and the conduct of criminal activity. Micronations can also exist in various forms, including in the physical world (on land, at sea and in outer space), online, in the minds of their creators, or some combination of these. Some micronations issue coins, flags, postage stamps, passports, medals, and other items.

Spaniards, Exhausted by Politics, Warm to Life Without a Government
By RAPHAEL MINDER and DAVID ZUCCHINO
MADRID — For the past 288 days, Spain has plodded along without an elected national government. For some Spaniards, this is a wonderful thing.
“No government, no thieves,” said Félix Pastor, a language teacher who, like many voters, is fed up with the corruption and scandals that tarnished the two previous governing parties.
Mr. Pastor, a wiry, animated 59-year-old, said Spain could last without a government “until hell freezes over” because politicians were in no position to do more harm.

Medieval Festival in Rebellious Catalonia Takes on Modern Meaning
BERGA, Spain — The Patum, a spectacular festival here that dates to medieval times, plays out the struggle between good and evil — represented by costumes and statues of angels, fire-wielding demons and dragons, and Christian knights fighting Turks and Moors — amid raucous celebrations over five days.
But here in the heartland of Catalonia, the festival has also come to symbolize the far more modern political and social struggles of Spain — between right and left, church and state, the Spanish government in Madrid and Catalan secessionists.
Catalonia’s independence drive has imbued the Patum, like so many other cultural symbols and expressions here, with ever greater nationalist significance for Catalans.

“125 years ago you didn’t have to ask permission from the Government to: go fishing, collect rain water, use a transportation vehicle, build a home or renovate it. You didn’t have to ask permission and pay to be married, obtain licenses, certifications or permits to hunt, own a weapon, become a carpenter or any trade or profession. You didn’t have ask permission to protest or redress the Government.! You can virtually do “NOTHING” without being extorted by Government and obtaining their permission first."

Ulster Nation
WELCOME to the Ulster Nation website. Ulster Nation is an educational publication which exists to promote the ideals of national freedom and social justice for Ulster. We stand for a new loyalty - loyalty to Ulster our Motherland. Our divided people have been prisoners of their traditional loyalties for far too long. We want to give Ulsterfolk something to struggle for - rather than the endless die-in-the-last-ditch rearguard action to defend an already lost cause. We want to encourage the reawakening of Ulster's national identity.

15 People Who Started Their Own Micronations
A micronation is a piece of land, either geographical or hypothetical, which claims to be a sovereign state—but isn’t. By the most bare-bones definition, this means all you have to do to create one is declare that you’ve done so. If you want to get fancy about it, you can also design your own passport, currency, regalia, and/or other accoutrements of statehood. Badgering the United Nations for recognition is optional, but by definition, micronations aren’t formally recognized by other countries or international bodies.
Some micronations are serious attempts driven by political ideology, while others are more like practical jokes. By some accounts, over 400 currently active micronations now exist. Here are 15 of the most interesting from the past few decades:

Man Building Own Sovereign Nation On Remote Piece Of Utah Land
SALT LAKE CITY (CBS Las Vegas/AP) — A New York man is building his own sovereign nation called Zaqistan on a remote piece of land in Utah.
Zaq Landsberg has created a yellow-and-red flag, official-looking passports and a border patrol gate guarded by a giant robot sentry for the realm, KSL-TV reported.
“The conceptual goal is I want it to become a real country,” said Landsberg, its president. “I mean, that goal is not going to happen. It’s impossible, but going through the motions, (I’m) trying to make that happen.”
He’s even created a motto for the land of Zaqistan: “Something from nothing.”

Top 10 Low Income Tax Countries
10: Switzerland: Lump Sum Taxation
Switzerland remains an attractive country for its quality of life and its central geographic position, as well as for its excellent infrastructure.
Swiss taxation may be attractive, especially when opting for the Lump Sum Taxation. Although the latter may one day disappear, currently it is still in place and allows for the benefit of a predictable tax, since it is a flat rate, without having to disclose the amount of annual revenue.
Note that for people with international operations, neighbouring Liechtenstein is also interesting with a tax rate of 12.5% on companies and a maximum of 24% on individuals.
Personal income tax rate: Flat rate, the flat rate amount is currently negotiating between 150,000 and 200,000 Swiss Francs on average.

The recent abduction of one of the foremost Yoruba leaders and former-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SFG), Chief Olu Falae, by suspected Fulani and herdsmen took a turn for the worse yesterday as prominent Yoruba leaders threaten secession from Nigeria.
Their grouse ranges from the unfortunate abduction of Falae to wanton destruction of his farmland to the need for a serious restructuring of Nigeria to reflect true federalism.

Switzerland has 2000 communes each of which sets its own income tax rate...
"The small country of Switzerland has over 2,000 communes, each of which sets its own income tax rate. This creates huge competition between the different communes and gives the population the possibility to “vote with their feet”, i.e. move to a commune a couple of miles away should they be unhappy with the way things are run at their current place of residence.
In such a system politicians and bureaucrats will have to serve the people because otherwise they will lose the support of taxpayers and their funding! As always, competition is key and the only protection against totalitarianism. I am confident that the majority of the Swiss people understand the beauty of the Swiss form of government. This can for example be seen in the fact that even though various statist and lobbying groups have tried to push Switzerland into the EU several times, today around 70% of the Swiss still don’t want to join the EU!"

Direct democracy Swiss style...
Eligible citizens of the canton meet on a certain day in the open air to decide on laws and expenditures by the council. Everyone can debate a question. Voting is accomplished by those in favour of a motion raising their hands. Historically, or in Appenzell until the admission of women, the only proof of citizenship necessary for men to enter the voting area was to show their ceremonial sword or Swiss military sidearm (bayonet), this gave proof that you were a freeman allowed to bear arms and to vote.

Where White Man Went Wrong
Indian Chief ‘Two Eagles’ was asked by a white U.S. government official, “you have observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen his wars and his technological advances. You’ve seen his progress, and the damage he’s done.”
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, “Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?”
The Chief stared at the government official then replied, “When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work. Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.”
Then the chief leaned back and smiled, “Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.”

Conch Republic on Wikipedia
The Conch Republic (República de la Concha) is a micronation declared as a tongue-in-cheek secession of the city of Key West, Florida, from the United States on April 23, 1982. It has been maintained as a tourism booster for the city since. Since then, the term "Conch Republic" has been expanded to refer to "all of the Florida Keys, or, that geographic apportionment of land that falls within the legally defined boundaries of Monroe County, Florida, northward to 'Skeeter's Last Chance Saloon' in Florida City, Dade County, Florida, with Key West as the nation's capital and all territories north of Key West being referred to as 'The Northern Territories'".Read more here
While the protest that sparked the creation of the Conch Republic (and others which have occurred since then) have been described by some as "tongue-in-cheek", they were motivated by frustrations over genuine concerns. The original protest event was motivated by a U.S. Border Patrol roadblock and checkpoint which greatly inconvenienced residents and was detrimental to tourism in the area.
